Oberoi Vanyavilas (Ranthambhore) Editorial Review, Rated (4.9 / 5) By Our Editors
The Oberoi Vanyavilas Ranthambore is a premium luxury five star property in the deserts of Rajasthan nearby Ranthambore National Park. Its one of the preferred premium choice of luxury travelers looking to visit the national park.
Its easy to book this property directly through their website or from third party websites. If you do book from a third party website, make sure you confirm your booking with the hotel before your arrival to ensure your booking from third party has been confirmed to the hotel. Booking can either be prepaid with discounts or with credit card holds. We booked directly from the website with credit card hold. It was a quick and easy process.
Arrival & Check In
There are 2 options to reach the hotel. Either you fly to Jaipur and take the 3 hours drive to the property or you can arrive by train to the Sawai Madhopur Railway station which is a quick 20 minutes drive from the property. We arrived by train and were promptly picked up by their representative. This was the first time in India we were escorted by the actual associate of the property who not only dropped us to the hotel car but also came along with us describing about the place and the property during the drive. And the same process was repeated after checkout where the associate actually waited on the late train to arrive and put us in our 1st AC cabin before saying good bye. It was such a nice gesture and we really appreciated it.
On arrival at the hotel reception, we were greeted by the hotel manager personally and provided with the welcome drink while check in formalities were completed shortly after. We were escorted to the room (a tent) which was nicely decorated and as we were celebrating a birthday, it was filled with baloons, cake and birthday messages. Obviously, we felt at home right from the check in.
There are only tents in the property and limited by numbers to 21 at the time of our visit. However, tent is only the name but in reality, it was as good as any other five star property suites we have been to. Spread along 20 acres the whole property has only limited number of tents which will feel like you are living in a jungle. There is four poster bed in the tent which is so comfortable along with a stand alone bath tub in separate bath area.
Completely air conditioned along with 32″ LCD televisions, these tents will make you feel royal! They have private area outside of the tents where weather permitted, private dining can be arranged. In the evening and the morning, you will wake up to the tunes of the real peacock singing just outside your tent. Its a surreal feeling which you can only experience but cannot describe in words.
From the local Rajasthani food to the continental dishes, you will be amazed at the quality and tatse of the food. It was such a pleasure having our food in the hotel. As we were with a small baby, they also picked and delivered breakfast for us from the buffet which was again great. They have a dining area in the main hall which serves as the restaurant so you can either have your meal over there or can order in room dining anytime.
They boasts of some of the great unique experiences so it was good doing some of it. As we were with a small baby, we couldn’t dine under stars (their unique dinner experience) however we had a sunset experience at the top of their observation tower where we had some mocktails and a cake cutting ceremony. It was a great view in the evening of the surroundings.
We have had a jungle safari arranged by them in the near Ranthambore National Park which is mostly the sole reason people visit this area. And if you need to spot a tiger in India, this is the best place which nearly guarantees spotting of tigers because of its not so lush forest during summer. Tigers will come out for food and water in the man made lakes (mostly filled by these resorts) so spotting a tiger near these lakes is easy. Not to mention, you will also spot various colorful birds as well. Our driver and guide was as good as we have ever had during a jungle safari. We took the whole jeep ourselves and it was kind of private expensive experience which was worth it at the end. We spotted 2-3 tigers and one from very nearby and did a small picnic on the jeep in the middle of the jungle where there was one colorful bird that joined us for the picnic and wanted everything of our picnic basket! We relished every moment of the safari.
Then we also visited a nearby craft store later in the evening where they obviously know we are tourists so try to extract as much money as possible without providing the value in the goods but since its kind of helping the local community we purchase few local hand made items and got back to the hotel.
One morning we went to the UNESCO world heritage site, the Ranthambore Fort, which we are sad to say, is not worth a visit. While view from the top is good and there is a Lord Ganesha temple as well, the trouble you will have the local vendors offering you items as well as pony rides to the top of the fort will make the whole experience a nightmare. And then its not the cleanest place as well. We regret going over there with our small baby except for the fact that we got the Lord Ganesha blessings.
Upon returning, we were greeted by the lovely elephants of the hotel, clicked pictures with them, had a ride on one of them and it felt so nice that the hotel is taking great care of these animals. They were happy and healthy. You would love meeting these pet elephants.
Oberoi Vanyavilas offers you all the comfort of a five star hotel right in the jungle kind of experience. They have restaurant with world class food, in room dining, swimming pool, fitness area in a tent and a great SPA. There is 24 hour wifi access as well so you will be staying connected easily. And then whatever you ask them, they will be happy to arrange it.
One of the finest staff in the hotel industry I have ever met, right from the hotel manager who is a gem. She is the best manager I have ever seen. Her processes are clear, her staff is on their toes 24 hours to please you and she herself can be seen almost every hour of the day from morning to evening interacting with guests in the lobby, dining area, etc. and making them feel at home. Every staff we met over there are real examples of the fine hospitality you expect in a five star luxury hotel.
If you are visiting the National Park and looking for a good luxury experience, look no further than Oberoi Vanyavilas. While they can be more proactive in offering you experiences according to your needs, they are as good as one can have in India. Go ahead, book them and experience the luxury like never before. Our editors give it (4.9 / 5) which is the highest rating given by our editors so far to a hotel in India.
